Recruiting, developing, and keeping great people is where nonprofit mission meets daily reality. It's also a challenge best worked through together.
The Agency Capacity Builder is built to answer that question. The first session of the Workforce Cohort launched, bringing together eight Milton Township Community Mental Health Board-funded organizations for the first of six sessions. The focus: recruiting, developing, and keeping the kind of people who make lasting community impact possible.
The group assessed where they stand on shared workforce challenges across the network: onboarding, manager development, pipeline building, and what it takes to attract and keep mission-driven staff. One agency brought a live challenge to the group for peer consultation and left with new perspectives from the many questions the cohort asked. Every agency made a concrete commitment to carry into the summer.
DuPagePads (https://www.dupagepads.org) hosted and opened their Interim Housing Center for a tour that brought the morning into focus. The Center serves 300 residents with daily case management, on-site meals, and wraparound necessities. The group arrived as kids were heading out the door to school. It was a vivid reminder of why this work matters and what is at stake when the organizations doing it have strong, stable teams.
This project, in partnership with Good Works Results LLC, is building organizational capacity and a stronger network of human service agencies across Milton Township and DuPage County.
