Nonprofit leaders need peers in other community-based agencies they can call. The first alumni networking event of the Nonprofit Leaders Forum was designed for exactly that.
Since 2023, more than 60 leaders from Bloomingdale, Hanover, and Schaumburg Townships have come through the forum across eight cohorts. The forum brings mid-level leaders from agencies funded by township mental health boards together for a year to work through real challenges, learn from each other, and build partnerships. Whatever the agency, the pressures often sound the same: carrying direct service while leading a team, and a list where everything is a priority.
Alumni had been asking to meet leaders from the other cohorts. Once they did, they put real needs on the table, and the room answered: a transportation program, supportive housing know-how, Medicaid benefits specialists, and business partner leads. Now they know who to call.
On the way out: “We are all in this together.” “I needed this.” “I’m not alone.”
Thank you to Annemarie LeCompte for leading a game that reminded us of the benefit of staying connected. Thank you to Hailey Matich and Hanover Township for hosting.
Partners around this table included: Alive Center NFP, NAMI DuPage, ABC Counseling, Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley, Ecker Center for Behavioral Health, The Gretchen S. Vapnar Community Crisis Center, Association for Individual Development, Ascension Center for Mental Health, PADS of Elgin, WINGS Program, Inc. and Addison Township.
Thank you to these township mental health boards for their investment in this program: Bloomingdale Township (https://bloomingdaletownship.com), Hanover Township (https://www.hanover-township.org/departments/mental-health-board) and Township of Schaumburg (https://schaumburgtownship.org/our-township/mental-health-board/)
